When Greg met Ana
AUCKLAND
We'd both had bad episode in our dating lives - partners who would only contact you once, partners who would just cut contact suddenly, those who simply stood you up. But we kept trying if only to convince ourselves that there was better out there.
And then it all started with a smile.
Just a single emoji to break the ice, but it was enough to get us chatting. And from there, after a few weeks, we met for the first time. Calling that date a success would be a bit of a stretch, but it went well enough to convince us to try a second time. And then a third. Whilst it wasn't one of those "love at first sight" stories, it grew over time, along with trust and respect.
In some respects, we can barely believe how far our relationship has come - and where it will go next. And all because of that one smile emoji.
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
-
What was your first date?
It was a simple coffee meet-up. Although we were both fairly nervous, we chatted, got to know each other a bit better, and it was enough for us to try a second date.
-
How long did you chat online before meeting up?
About three weeks. We just talked about family, our jobs, movies, COVID (this was at the end of a lockdown period), just anything that came into our heads, really.
-
Any advice to other singles still looking for their special someone?
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there - even if it is just a smile to break the ice. You never know where you might end up after that little bit of bravery and effort.
-
Did you have to kiss many frogs to find your prince/princess?
Too many...
